It keeps us going --
this time of year,
when winter resists the pull to spring
and daffodils shiver in the cold --
Thoughts of the harvest:
that promise of blessing
that follows each pruning;
the vine and the branches
exploding in color:
in leaves, and in tendrils,
and rich, lush fruit.
Blunt cut,
we cling to the vineand await the slow ripening.
